Road Planer Belt Replacement


A team member carries out a primary belt replacement at our Derbyshire based workshop, however most road planers are serviced on site.

We first started working on road planers around 25 years ago and since then it’s become something of a speciality for us, refining methods of vulcanising belts to all Wirtgen machines.

Main dealer endless primary belts require considerable downtime to fit as both conveyors need to be removed from the machine and rollers stripped before the belt can be slid into place; this can lead to a machine being off the road and not earning for two to three days. Using the same vulcanising techniques employed in the factory, we can join the belts with the conveyor in situ on the planer in 2 to 4 hours. This allows the belt to be changed between nightshifts meaning the machine has no additional downtime.

All our road planer belts are imported from the same two European factories that Wirtgen use and manufactured to identical standards. While cheap Chinese belting may look the same it will be made of a much lower grade rubber leading to premature wear and breakdowns. Compared to other types of machine we service across a wide variety of industries, road planers are hard on their belts so substandard rubber just wouldn’t work for very long. The 2m Wirtgen planers use a 32mm chevron to ensure planings are removed efficiently without rollback which can clog drums and cause belt/skirt wear.

Our mobile service vehicles are fully equipped to allow us to repair and replace belts anywhere in the UK meaning in a breakdown situation we can work at the side of the road to get your machine up and running as soon as possible avoiding transport costs and penalties. Our DIY clip repair kit available in our shop is ideal for planer operators and fitters as it contains the clips and installation tools needed to effect a repair on a ripped belt within a few minutes, allowing the machine to finish it’s shift.
