Wood Chip Conveyor
Biomass boiler feed conveyor replacement.
County Conveyors was approached by the the forestry team at a nearby stately home to resolve issues they were having with a conveyor used to feed woodchip into their biomass boiler. This machine was old and had been repurposed from another task so wasn’t quite right for the job. The decision was made to replace the unit rather than waste money trying to refurbish and adapt.
Easikit modular System
We’re big fans of the Easikit conveyors so this was our first option over a bespoke build. The modular system allows for customised lengths and options meaning a fully tailored solution is available off-the-shelf in a matter of a few days. Different widths are avilable and other components, such as stands, hoppers, under-guarding and controls can be added to suit the application.
Conveyor options
The 600mm belt conveyor was the most suitable choice as it fitted with the existing hopper and the 5.26m length was ideal for feeding the next machine in the sequence. The addition of a variable inverter meant that we could fine tune the speed to dispense the correct amout of product. Adjustable stands meant we could set the conveyor at the desired angle and height.
The feed hopper has a lid to prevent ingress as the park is open to the public, to this we added an electric winch to reduce manual handling.
Installation
Working with our colleagues over at One Great Northern, we were able to provide a full turn-key solution. This included the removal of the old equipment, fabrication work and repairs to the existing bulk feed hopper and installation of the new conveyor. Access was difficult but the Böcker truck crane allowed us to lift tools, equipment and machinery in and out with ease. Our electricians added a custom control system allowing the operator to run the conveyor whilst filling the hopper from a tipper trailer meaning the belt could be shut off quickly in the event of a foreign object in the load.
